The Hot Toddy has a history dating back hundreds if not thousands of years. This is a variation on the hot toddy cocktail recipe theme because this is a cocktail made with rum. I am always on the lookout for new rum recipes and when I stumbled across this I just had to try it.
It is perfect for those winter evenings or when you are feeling a bit crappy or when you have a head cold and are all stuffed up.
The Ingredients
1/4 cup sugar
2/3 cup spiced rum
4 tablespoons honey
3 cups boiling water
4 cinnamon sticks
4 lemon slices
Method
For starters you prepare by spreading sugar onto a plate. Next you dip the rim of each of the mugs into cold water and then dip the wet rims of each mug into sugar. Mix the rum and honey in a 4-cup measuring cup. Next you add 3 cups of boiling water and stir to blend. Then pour the hot toddy in equal quantities into the prepared mugs. Garnish with cinnamon sticks and lemon slices and serve.
The hot toddy is a classic, albeit one which is perhaps more traditionally associated with Whisky. I am always on the lookout for interesting new rum recipes and this was one I just had to give a try. If you are into cocktails generally then you have to check out our sister site, Cocktail Recipes.
